Extracurricular Work with Students of the Department of Language and General Education Training for Foreigners at Al - Farabi KazNU: Participation in the Beijing Film Week

Extracurricular activities are an important part of the work carried out by the Department of Language and General Education Training for Foreigners at Al - Farabi KazNU. In addition to classroom instruction, the department’s teachers organize various activities aimed at helping foreign students adapt to their new environment, expanding their cultural horizons, and developing intercultural communication skills. One of the key events of the autumn semester was the participation of Chinese students in the Beijing Film Week, held in Almaty from 25 to 30 November.
Beijing Film Week is an international cultural event organized by the Beijing Municipal Film Administration within the framework of the Beijing International Film Festival. The program included free screenings of Chinese feature films at the Arman cinema, a presentation on contemporary Chinese cinema, and a Q&A session with filmmakers who arrived from China.
Students of the department took part in the official opening ceremony, where the audience was welcomed by Mr. Lü Yi, Acting Consul General of the PRC in Almaty, members of the official delegation, and the renowned Kazakhstani film director Yermek Shinarbayev.
The students attended several films presented at the festival, which allowed them to discover new trends in the Chinese film industry and to experience firsthand the importance of cultural exchange between Kazakhstan and China.
Such events have become an essential component of the department’s extracurricular activities. Participation in the Beijing Film Week supports the development of students’ intercultural competence and increases their motivation to study the Russian language.
Organizing and attending cultural events of this level represents concrete steps toward strengthening friendship and mutual understanding between the two countries.
