On September 1, 2025, President of Kazakhstan K.- J. Tokayev spoke at the next summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Kazakhstan is a full member of this international organization, whose activities are aimed at strengthening stability and security in a wide area uniting the participating states, combating terrorism, separatism, extremism, drug trafficking, developing economic cooperation, energy partnership, scientific and cultural interaction. During his speech, the Head of State put forward several constructive initiatives.
The President of Kazakhstan expressed his unwavering commitment to the principles of the SCO: "an equal multipolar world order, security and stability, non - interference in the internal affairs of States and recognition of their right to sovereign development, fair international trade and mutually beneficial investment cooperation." Tokayev noted that at present, such a platform as the SCO should become a permanent platform for establishing broad - format political interaction, strengthening mutual trust in the international community, developing humanitarian cooperation and inter - civilizational dialogue. The leader of Kazakhstan focused on programs related to the development of humanitarian and technical assistance programs for Afghanistan, aimed at reviving the country. In this regard, the activities of the United Nations Regional Center for Sustainable Development Goals for Central Asia and Afghanistan, which recently opened in Almaty, are playing a special role. "We invite the SCO member states to jointly use the potential of this Center to coordinate efforts and enhance regional cooperation in all priority areas," the President of Kazakhstan said.
The Head of Kazakhstan highlighted the economic achievements of the member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, focusing on the figures concerning our country: Kazakhstan's trade turnover with the SCO countries approached $ 70 billion.
Supporting initiatives aimed at developing cooperation within the SCO, K.- J. Tokayev noted the enormous potential of the "One Belt, One Road" megaproject. Further development of the transport and logistics infrastructure is necessary for the implementation of this project. These issues should be discussed at the upcoming first forum of heads of ports and logistics centers of the SCO in Aktau in November.
The President of Kazakhstan stressed the need for cooperation in the fields of high technologies and digitalization and their effective use in all sectors of the economy.
Environmental problems are acute all over the world: desertification, droughts, shallowing of reservoirs, melting glaciers... Their resolution also requires the development of joint integrated strategies. The Head of State proposed to create a Center for studying SCO water problems in Kazakhstan.
We believe that the problems that our President touched upon in his speech at the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, as well as the ways to resolve them indicated by him, should be practically implemented in the course of the activities of this International Organization, which unites 3. 5 billion people, which makes up about half of the world's population and makes it the largest regional association in terms of population in the world..
